To be, or not to be....

To be or not to be...yes The 39 Club celebrated its 60th anniversary in style at the very historic Stratford-Upon-Avon at the end of September, in a year which was also the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s passing.  Guests of the members enjoyed a 5 course banquet, music and dancing until the early hours of the Sunday morning in elegant surroundings at the renowned Stratford Q Hotel, in this most beautiful scenic part of England.  By day the members, their partners, family and guests enjoyed exploring this fascinating Tudor showcase of what life was like when Shakespeare was alive.

The Chairman Andrew Tompsett wholeheartedly thanks every person for their support in attending this very successful club function.

Noah's Ark Childrens Hospice

Today the current Chairman of The 39 Club Andrew Tompsett and Hon Treasurer Brian Winterbourne had the profound pleasure to hand over a cheque for £1,500 to Noah's Ark Children's Hospice.

The money has been collected over the year at events the club has held such as the annual Spring Lunch as well as at the monthly meetings.

Noah's Ark is a specialist charity that assists families with children who have terminal cancer. This is a wonderful cause and was inspired by the short life of a special little boy called Zac Naji whose image is included within the picture with his mother Jo and sister Hannah.

It is a wonderful thing that a band of menswear operatives can get together and still make a small difference by collecting for the Chairman's nominated charity whilst discussing the trade and enjoying meeting up monthly.

Chairman's Day Out July 2016

Chairman's Day Out last Monday 11th July saw the 13 39 Club members be escorted by a Blue Badge guide, Dr Barry Walsh for an exclusive guided walk around St James' and Mayfair. The tour took us into Floris perfumers, Christies auction house, the beautiful Wren St James' church and a private tour of 150 year old John Lobb's the shoemakers which was a fascinating insight. Large thanks to Dr Barry Walsh our guide, who was able to organise these private tours of places we have all walked past over time in our own backyard.

The lively lunch followed at the Kings Head in Albemarle and Stafford Street where close by, 60 years previously, the first 39 Club meeting was held in

1956 at the Duke of Albemarle.

60th Anniversary Spring Lunch for The 39 Club

Friday 18th March 2016 saw the 60th Anniversary of the Annual Spring Lunch for The 39 Club. More than one hundred guests attended the splendid event held at the Royal Overseas League in St James’s, off Piccadilly in Central London. The image shows some members of the current club committee, from Left to Right: Denis Hanks (Social Sec.), Brian Winterbourne (Hon. Treasurer), John Brown (President), Andrew Tompsett (Chairman), Tony Scott (Hon. Secretary), Simon Lovell (Vice Chairman), Paul Garrett and Paul Humphrey.

This year’s spectacular lunch saw more than £1200 raised for the Chairman’s annual charity choice, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice. The collection was followed with an excellent and very humorous address from the well-respected rugby commentator Andrew Titheridge.   A splendid time was had by all!
